PLAYGROUND LEADER TRAINING 2022
This training will take place on Tuesday 13th December 2022 (Timings TBC) and is aimed at 10, Year 5 pupils (per school), so that they can have two full years of leadership within school, focussing on the STEP Framework. Using the STEP Framework is an easy use approach which enable your Year 5 leadership team to adapt and differentiate their games during break and lunch times.
The STEP Framework
S – (Space) Where is the activity happening? Pupils will learn how space affects the games they play and how they can be easily modified to make the game easier, harder and more inclusive for all.
T – (Task) What is happening during this activity? Pupils will learn how changing the ‘task’ or ‘aims’ of the activity can help to make their games more fun. Examples being, changing the demands or aims of the game, creating and implementing rules.
E – (Equipment) What is being used during the activity? Pupils will learn and understand the usage of equipment during their games and how changing this equipment can be modified, with a focus on how to make the game easier, harder and more inclusive for all.
P – (People) Who is involved? Pupils will learn that the people involved in their activities can also be changed to affect the aims and rules of the game. For example, making bigger or smaller teams.
Pupils will carousel around 8 activity stations, each with the focus on one of the letters above. There will also be 2 rest stations for your pupils to think about what they’ve learned, have a break and grab a drink.
Staff will be given a booklet at the beginning of the training to take back to school, which explains the basics of the STEP Framework, code of conduct for leaders, communication, management and what to do if you spot bullying. School and individual certificates will be available to all partcipating schools as well.
