New Horizons Conference preview
The Primary PE Conference entitled 'New Horizons' took place on Friday 7 October 2011 at Gateshead Leisure Centre. It was a very successful day where candidates enjoyed a mixture of both practical and theoretical sessions.
The day began with those in attendance selecting an Olympic/Paralympic Games country for their school. This will be used in the School Sport Partnership medal

Year 5 School Games High 5 Competition

Registration is now open for schools wishing to take part in the Gateshead stage of the Tesco Great School Run. Now in it's 3rd year in Gateshead, this has always been a well supported event with over 1000 pupils participating last year alone.

Yr 4/5 Sportshall Athletics FINALS
The Gateshead Primary Schools Year 4/5 Sportshall Athletics FINALS recently took place at Gateshead Leisure Centre (30/03/11). Representative teams from all 10 Gateshead Clusters competed and the final standing were as follows:

Whickham Front Street Primary School were last night crowned Gateshead Mini Hockey Champions at the Year 5/6 Mini Hockey Finals. This Final was played last night at Whickham School and Sports College.

Year 5/6 Mini Hockey Tournaments
The Year 5/6 Mini Hockey tournaments were completed prior to half term. There were 3 tournaments in total held at the following venues:

The Yr 5/6 Tag Rugby Tournament took place at Blaydon RFC this afternoon. The competition was the last of 3 Tag Rugby events which have taken place this week at Ryton RFC, Gateshead RFC and Blaydon RFC.

Change 4 Life Fencing Club launched @ Ryton Comprehensive

Mini Fencing Programme 2010
On Friday 9th July 2010, Gateshead’s first ever Mini Festival took place. Nearly 50 pupils from Ryton Juniors, Emmaville, Blaydon West and Crookhill took part in the festival at Ryton Comprehensive School.

Primary Sportshall Athletics FINALS
Following the organisaion of 10 Cluster Sportshall Athletics events for Year4/5 pupils, the Gateshead Primary Schools FINALS recently took place at the Louisa Centre in Stanley. All 10 Clusters were asked to select representative squads to attend the finals and challenge for the title.

Indoor Rowers Achieve National Success
Last week saw the culmination of this years Schools Indoor Rowing Programme. Following success at local, county and regional level a squad of pupils from across Gateshead schools were identified to compete at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships (NJIRC).

On the 12th March 2010 Barley Mow, Portobello and Ravensworth attended the Lord Lawson Sportshall Athletics cluster event.
Ravensworth were the eventual winners and will go on to represent the cluster at the finals. Well done to them.

Lord Lawson KS1 Multi-skills Event
On the 19th March 2010 Lord Lawson held their KS1 multi-skills cluster event. Barley Mow, Birtley East, Kibblesworth and Portobello attended the event. There were a total of 117 pupils who took part on the day and they all had an enjoyable afternoon. Gateshead Gets Fencing
A group of teachers from the Ryton cluster have become the first staff in Gateshead to embark on a programme of mini fencing delivery and undertake a mini fencing course (pictured).
