Health and Safety Update: The Daily Mile

afPE Health & Safety Update: The Daily Mile

The 5-18 year old CMO guidelines state that all children and young people should engage in moderate to vigorous intensity of physical activity for at least 60 minutes and up to several hours every day so it is no coincidence that a large number of primary and secondary schools are contemplating undertaking the Daily Mile, if they have not got it going already.

The Daily Mile is designed to develop children and young people's fitness levels and inspire them to be active with the aim being to improve their physical, emotional and social health and wellbeing. It has a simple approach – to help children get fit by running/walking or a combination of both for 15 minutes a day in school (The 15 minutes includes leaving the classroom until returning).

The afPE Health and Safety Update for November aims to support schools in the health and safety aspects of setting up and delivering this physical activity initiative and is available in the Resources section HERE.
