Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Union Competition
The ever popular Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Union Competitions toom place last week and we had great support from local clubs Ryton, Winlaton, Blaydon and Gateshead RFC.
The week started at Winlaton RFC consiting of 7 primary schools and a total of 20 teams took part (St Joseph Blaydon, Parkhead, St Matthew's, Winlaton West Lane, Harlow Green, Dunston Hill and St Philip Neri).
The second competition took place at Gateshead RFC consisting of 14 primary schools and a total of 25 teams took part (Fell Dyke, Bill Quay, Portobello, Carr Hill, Falla Park, Oakfield, St Joseph Gateshead, Wardley, The Drive, Birtley East, South Street, Usworth, Kells Lane and White Mere).
The penultimate day of the Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Union Competiton took place at Ryton RFC consisting of 5 primary schools and a total of 11 teams took part (Crookhill, Greenside, Ryton Juniors, Highfield and St Agnes).
The final day of competition was hosted by Blaydon RFC consisting of 4 primary schools and a toatl of 9 teams took part (Washingwell, Front Street, Lobley Hill and Riverside).
The standard of rugby across the whole week was extremely high and played in a fantastic manor demonstrating eacellent teamwork and good sportmanship throughout! The week was supported by leaders from Thorp Academy and Whickham School and Sports College who did a fantastic job! A great week of rugby with a fantastic total of 65 teams with over 500 KS2 pupils taking part.
A number of schools qualified to our Gateshead FINALS; Blaydon St Joseph's, Dunston Hill, Riverside, Winlaton West Lane, Highfield, Wardley, Oakfield Juniors and Falla Park. The final will be played in the Spring Term well done to everyone involved and good luck to all of the finalists!
